My name is Mẩy Phin, and I come from Ta Van Village, a peaceful H’mong community nestled deep in the Muong Hoa Valley of Sapa.

I grew up surrounded by mountains, rice terraces, buffalo, and the sounds of nature. Like many girls in my village, I helped my family with farming from a young age — planting rice, collecting firewood, and learning to embroider H’mong patterns with my mother.

But everything changed the first time I met travelers passing through my village. I didn’t speak English then, but I saw their curiosity — and I wanted to share my home, my culture, my story. So I decided to learn. I studied English on my own, practiced with guests, and after a few years, I became a guide.

Now, guiding is my life. I’ve been leading trekking and village tours for over 6 years, and every group teaches me something new. I don’t just show people the views — I show them how we live: how we cook, what we believe, how we celebrate, and how we survive.

Sometimes we walk for hours through bamboo forests. Sometimes we just sit and talk under the shade of a tree. But always, my goal is the same: to make you feel welcome, to help you see Sapa through the eyes of a local girl who still walks the same trails she did as a child.

Itinerary

Day 1: Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai

• Meet Mẩy Phin at your hotel or Sapa Stone Church at 9:00 AM

• Begin your trek down the Muong Hoa Valley, passing through the H’mong village of Lao Chai

• Enjoy stunning views of layered rice terraces and wooden houses

• Continue to Ta Van Village, home of the Giay people

• Have lunch at a local home

• Trek onward to Giang Ta Chai, a Red Dao village near a waterfall and bamboo forest

• Stay overnight at a local homestay in Giang Ta Chai

Overnight: Red Dao homestay in Giang Ta Chai

Day 2: Giang Ta Chai – Su Pan – Ban Ho

• After breakfast, continue trekking to Su Pan Village

• Cross hills and suspension bridges through peaceful forest trails

• Arrive in Ban Ho Village, home of the Tay ethnic group, surrounded by lush valleys and rivers

• Enjoy a refreshing stream bath (if weather allows)

• Stay with a Tay family and join in dinner preparations

Trekking distance: 10–12 km

Overnight: Tay homestay in Ban Ho

Day 3: Ban Ho – Nam Toong – Sapa

• Light breakfast and short trek to Nam Toong, a small Red Dao hamlet

• Visit a traditional house and learn about Red Dao herbal medicine

• Enjoy the last scenic trek back toward the main road

• Transfer by motorbike or car back to Sapa (arrive ~2:30 PM)
